Year: 2023-2024
Location: Skopje - Munich
About the exhibition:
Architectural gifts - such as libraries, mosques, shelters, and stadiums - play a major role in shaping cities worldwide. Rooted in traditions of philanthropy, religion, and diplomacy, these buildings often reflect unequal power relations between donors and recipients. This exhibition examines gifted architecture across four continents, exploring both its generosity and its potential for harm. Through case studies and storytelling, it investigates how architectural gifts influence design, labor, politics, and community life, and asks what obligations, benefits, and consequences remain long after the buildings are completed.
My contribution to the exhibition consisted of photographs from Skopje, focusing on the housing barracks built after the earthquake in 1963, and the Universal Hall, as symbols of solidarity.
